Since about 2018, classic methods for question generation were largely superseded in research by neural methods of question generation, following on the general success of deep learning approaches in NLP, and neural NLG in particular. In this chapter we introduce the first wave of neural QG models, built on encoder–decoder sequence-to-sequence architectures.
