Promoting Circular Economy: Implementation Principles in the Tannery Sector
摘要
The concept of the circular economy (CE) centers on the optimization of resource productivity and eco-efficiency, with a particular emphasis on the industrial structure, new technology development, application, equipment renewal, and management renovation. While the leather business indirectly contributes to the growth of the local economy, it also significantly pollutes the environment. Tannery fleshings is a solid waste generated during the processing of hides in terms of trimmings and lime fleshing these are a rich source of protein and also have benefits in the production of renewable energy which benefits the management of disposal problems which causing the environmental pollution. These fleshings can be utilized in the biochemical and thermos-chemical conversion process to produce energy in terms of biogas, ethanol, biodiesel, carbon, bio-oil and syngas. These reduce the utilization of raw materials, water, power in leather industries and also the leather processing expenses. The conversion of leather fleshings into the renewable energy sources reduces the emission of greenhouse gases to the environment. The utilization of tannery waste materials is much more needed to fulfill the sustainable development goals (SDGs) for better future.
