Advancing Coastal Research: Integration of GIScience for Transdisciplinary Solutions and Strategic Decision-Making
摘要
This chapter explores the role of GIScience in advancing coastal research, emphasizing transdisciplinary approaches and strategic decision-making for sustainable coastal management. It highlights the role of GIS technologies in providing spatially explicit data and analytical tools that facilitate informed decision-making, adaptive management, and multi-stakeholder collaboration. The chapter discusses key themes such as the integration of GIS into coastal policy frameworks, the use of AI and machine learning for predictive modelling, and the importance of adaptive management approaches for dynamic coastal systems. The chapter addresses challenges such as data gaps, technological limitations, and governance issues, alongside ethical considerations in participatory research. It also explores the potential of remote sensing technologies, including LiDAR and UAVs, as well as cloud-based GIS platforms, in enhancing the monitoring and evaluation of coastal policies. The chapter concludes by highlighting the importance of ongoing capacity building, ethical practices, and inclusive participation to ensure GIS-based coastal research fosters long-term environmental sustainability and community resilience.
