This chapter explored the composite economic value of wetlands by examining the ecosystem services they provide. Wetlands are critical components of the Earth’s hydrological and ecological systems, and perform various functions, including water purification, flood control, biodiversity conservation, nutrient cycling, and carbon sequestration. Despite their significant contributions to environmental sustainability and human well-being, wetlands are often undervalued economically, leading to widespread degradation and loss. This necessitates the application of various valuation methods to capture their full value. The chapter highlighted the importance of translating the ecological benefits of wetlands into economic terms to inform better conservation and management strategies. Through a detailed analysis of valuation methods, case studies, and challenges in assessing wetland services, the chapter advocates for more robust policy frameworks that recognize the true value of wetlands in supporting sustainable development and ecological resilience.
