The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways reveals that, there were 9528 deaths of people aged under 18 due to road accidents in the year 2022. In 2021, the SaveLIFE foundation conducted a survey among school children in 14 cities across India, it was found that 30% have witnessed a road crash on their way to school, and 6% were involved in such accidents. It is crucial to ensure the safety of school children and teenagers during their daily commute to and from school and college. The current investigation assesses the elements that influence teenagers’ behavior towards road safety. The study aims to determine the main traffic safety issues that teenagers (13–19) encounter on their route to school or college. For this a questionnaire survey was conducted among the students in some of the schools and colleges in Kozhikode district located in southern part of India. The students were divided into two age groups (13 to 17) and (18 to 19). A total of 504 samples were collected for age group 13 to 17 and 437 samples were collected for age group 18 to 19. Three different approaches are utilized to collect data: in-person interviews, online surveys by using Google Forms, and paper surveys, for making data handling easier all the offline data was extracted into Microsoft Excel. It is found that there is a lack of knowledge on traffic safety among the teenagers who is not having the driving license.
