Point-of-care testing (POCT) research is dedicated to the development and refinement of diagnostic technologies that enable rapid, accurate, and decentralized testing at or near the patient’s location. The primary objective of POCT is to deliver precise results swiftly, thereby shortening diagnostic times and facilitating prompt decision-making by healthcare professionals. This approach eliminates the need for patient transportation to specialized facilities, a benefit that was particularly evident during the COVID-19 pandemic when access to medical units was restricted. POCT aims to enhance patient care by enabling quicker initiation of appropriate treatments, especially in critical situations, and by improving diagnostic access in remote or resource-limited settings. The focus of this chapter is on Corona-based materials a new range of materials increasingly used in the construction of biosensors and drug delivery systems. These materials use principles inspired by natural structures and processes, particularly those occurring in biological organisms, to design innovative materials with enhanced, novel properties.
