Amplifying the Future of Industrial Heritage Through Digital Representation and Communication
摘要
In light of the challenges posed by climate change, there is a pressing need for the building industry to embrace sustainable practices. This objective can be attained through the implementation of circularity principles in the design and construction of building materials and structures. It is therefore recommended that adaptive reuse should be given a high priority. One of the most endangered categories of heritage is that of post-industrial buildings and sites. Therefore, they are frequently included on lists of heritage at risk. The reversal of this process and the promotion of adaptive reuse may only be successful if there is a societal recognition of the industrial legacy. It is therefore not surprising that this topic is of pivotal importance for architectural research, practice and education. The arguments discussed in the chapter are illustrated by selected projects and case studies that involve enhanced representation techniques for raising awareness of heritage value and its appreciation by local communities as well as wider audience. In this regard, special focus is on the work presented at the international exhibition—Łódź Design Festival, showing results of the use of digital photogrammetry and 3D printing for the increased heritage awareness and accessibility.
