Traditional healers around the world with a deep-rooted understanding of local medicinal flora significantly contribute to local primary healthcare, particularly in areas with limited access to conventional medicine. This case study explores the pivotal role of traditional knowledge held by traditional healers in Kachin State, Myanmar, within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. We interviewed 26 traditional healers regarding medicinal plants and their therapeutic information. This case study registered 93 medicinal plant species and 84 kinds of medicinal applications, including treatments for hypertension, bone disorders, and various infections. The integration of this traditional knowledge and the power of local traditional healers is crucial in the global context of cultural exchange and holistic development. The study underscores the importance of preserving and promoting the wisdom of traditional healers for local healthcare, cultural heritage conservation, biodiversity utilization, and community well-being. This case study discusses the challenges to sustaining the knowledge and plant resources, as seen from the perspectives of both traditional healers and the global scientific community.
