Chiang Mai Local Plants and Gastronomy: A Symbiotic Relationship

This research paper explores the intricate relationship between local plants and gastronomy in Chiang Mai, Thailand, highlighting how the region’s diverse ecosystems and cultural practices shape its culinary landscape. Chiang Mai’s unique geography, consisting of highland, upland, and lowland areas, contributes to the abundance of local plant varieties that serve as vital ingredients in traditional dishes. The study emphasizes the seasonal nature of local produce, the role of indigenous plants in regional cuisine, and the impact of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) on enhancing culinary diversity through agricultural collaboration and cultural exchange.
