This chapter first explores how systemic and critical/post-structuralist approaches to the study of radicalisation are based on theoretical flaws. It then evaluates rational choice theories as improved but incomplete and still flawed attempts at making sense of radicalisation processes. It ends by providing theoretical support to a general theory stemming from a larger conception of rationality based on Schutzian phenomenology and Boudonian rationalism as an alternative.
