The school, an environment for formal learning and social interaction, is an important setting for development; however, it is also a context where negative and harmful experiences, such as those involving violence, can occur. Violence against children in the school context, a complex and multifactorial social phenomenon, can generate negative repercussions for development, and it is essential that it is understood, prevented, identified, and combated. This chapter addresses violence against children in the school context from a multicontextual approach that considers historical, social, and cultural aspects, according to Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological theory of human development. Thus, it is presented a report of university extension actions carried out in public and private schools in the state of RS, which allow the recognition of situations of violence and an assessment of evidence-based interventions to combat violence against children in the school setting. It is believed that this chapter can contribute to the replication of these successful initiatives, considering a personalization of these strategies for specific contexts, in order to promote a safe and protective school environment.
