摘要

Brazilian and other countries’ childhoods present alarming numbers of one of the most serious rights violations: the commercial sexual exploitation of children and adolescents, considered a severe violation of integrity, dignity, and fundamental rights as human beings. There has been progress in raising public awareness about the phenomenon, but we are still far from social mobilization for the eradication of this situation. The adoption of a systemic perspective like the bioecological theory of human development proves to be a relevant theoretical lens for understanding and intervening in this field. This chapter reveals a selection of concepts and dynamics useful to every citizen to recognize situations of sexual exploitation, articulating with the contextual analysis of human development and its four cores: process, person, time, and context. The chapter aims to illustrate everyday scenes of sexual exploitation, unveiling the processes of exploitation of children and adolescents’ sexuality and discussing the vulnerability situations that further weaken Brazilian childhood and youth.
