Agritourism in Nepal presents significant potential to merge tourism with agriculture, enhancing rural development through sustainable practices. Nepal’s diverse landscapes, traditional farming techniques, and rich cultural heritage create an ideal foundation for agritourism, yet challenges persist due to infrastructure deficits, regulatory gaps, and limited stakeholder coordination. This chapter proposes a conceptual framework tailored to Nepal’s agritourism, distinguishing core activities such as farm stays and harvest festivals from peripheral activities such as cooking classes and handicraft workshops. This framework aims to support a sustainable agritourism model that integrates local cultural events and agricultural practices, offering visitors authentic rural experiences while benefiting communities. Drawing from successful international models—including Japan’s Sixth Industrialization and Italy’s agritourism districts—a roadmap is outlined to guide agritourism development in Nepal. The roadmap phases include initial planning, infrastructure enhancement, community training, pilot projects, and continuous monitoring. Additionally, a policy analysis reveals gaps within Nepal’s existing agriculture and tourism policies, underscoring the need for a national agritourism policy that aligns with rural economic goals. Through agritourism, Nepal can generate employment, promote cultural preservation, and foster environmental stewardship. This chapter concludes that a well-coordinated, Nepal-specific agritourism strategy could serve as a catalyst for socio-economic transformation, empowering rural communities and contributing to Nepal’s broader sustainable development objectives. To enhance Nepal’s rural economy and preserve cultural heritage, agritourism can leverage the country’s diverse landscapes, traditional farming practices, and unique rural festivals, setting it apart as a culturally rich destination. However, to realize agritourism’s full potential, Nepal requires a dedicated national agritourism policy. Such a policy would address infrastructure gaps, coordinate stakeholder involvement, and support sustainable development, ensuring that agritourism becomes a pillar of rural economic growth.
