Early studies indicate that there is an overrepresentation of majority culture populations among children identified as gifted. Later research on eminent innovators and leaders shows that children of minorities and immigrants are not necessarily disadvantaged but rather enjoy different challenges for their intelligence, emotional maturity as well as creativity. This study shows that gifted children are to be found in immigrant families, among those from less affluent backgrounds, not necessarily living in the center of the country, and in many cases, have more than the average number of siblings.
