In Sweden, as in many western countries’ polarisation in politics and in many other areas has been increasing during the last decade. Sometimes this is called a “cultural war” between populism and “woke” and has been propelled by extensive use of different platforms on the internet. A consequence has been that people have become afraid of talking freely at the risk of being accused of using the wrong words or say something that could be attacked for being on the wrong side in the war. This has been described as a “culture of silence”.
