The Profile of Elite Owners/Breeders in Ireland and Great Britain
摘要
This chapter examines the influence of elite breeders such as the Al Maktoum family, amongst others from the Middle East and the owners of Coolmore Stud in County Tipperary on the horse breeding and racing industry in Ireland and Great Britain. The author uses statistical data to underscore these elite breeders’ dominance with conclusive and negative conclusions. Also offered is an analysis of the backgrounds of these owners. For instance, in the Middle East, some of the owners govern countries which are embroiled in controversies over human rights that the author contends should not be overlooked by the governments in Great Britain and Ireland, where they are permitted to operate their horse breeding businesses. Furthermore, there is also an assessment of the backgrounds of the owners of Coolmore Stud, amidst political controversies surrounding, in particular, Charles J. Haughey in Ireland.
