The book’s preceding findings are synthesized in Chap. 8 , which compares the top sustainable energy carriers using a number of factors. In order to benchmark energy demands for production, storage, and transportation, it first provides a technical assessment. A full-chain case study is used to illustrate the findings. Then, using a thorough cost-tracking case study as support, the economic portion compares levelized costs throughout the same stages. Lastly, a cradle-to-grave life-cycle assessment uses an integrated LCA case study to quantify greenhouse gas emissions while emphasizing carrier synergies and trade-offs. When taken as a whole, these studies give decision-makers a clear, side-by-side evaluation of the technical performance, financial implications, and environmental effects that will influence the deployment of energy carriers in the future.
