Stress and Wellness
摘要
Stress can be described as an experience of emotional, mental, or physical tension that results from any event, context, behavior, or thought that is perceived as a challenge, problem, or demand. Stress is an inevitable and unavoidable part of life, and a mind-body approach to stress is about reducing our automatic and habitual reactivity to stress by developing reliable ways of responding to it. There are three main ways that stress can affect the mind and body through changes in structure, physical processes, and functional processes. Stress can affect the body and mind through inflammation, hormonal changes, mood disorders, cardiovascular disorders, gastrointestinal distress, and many more ways. A stress-reduction plan should not only target the stressor and our reaction to it but also should prepare our minds and bodies to cope with stress in health-promoting ways. Evidence-based techniques that can help ameliorate the harmful consequences of stress include identifying stress triggers, good sleep, relaxation techniques that unite mind and body like yoga, meditation, prayer, and massage, self-nurturing, healthful eating, physical activity, and social engagement.
