The Environment and Our Wellness
摘要
Environmental wellness is living all parts of life in environments that are healthful, stimulating, pleasant, and that support well-being. Clean environments with minimal toxins and health risks not only promote wellness in all our dimensions, but they can also help restore us to better mental and physical health after stress, illness, or disability. Reducing environmental risk includes increasing sustainable living, avoiding air, soil, and water pollution, purchasing nontoxic and safe consumer products, and infectious disease prevention via vaccination and minimizing exposure. Consistent involvement with the natural world is associated with reduced stress, better mood, and increased emotional regulation. Finally, our well-being is intricately interconnected with the health of our environment, and supporting a healthy, clean, and wholesome environment creates the conditions in which human flourishing is possible. The bigger picture of improving environmental wellness includes pro-environment policies, environmental activism, environmental education, and environmental justice.
