An Overview of Sustainable Energy Resources in Smart Cities
摘要
Considering the rising rates of population expansion and the consequent surge in energy requirements, there exists an urgent necessity to tackle the obstacles linked with this matter. A viable strategy to alleviate these obstacles encompasses the establishment of intelligent urban areas that can adeptly regulate energy usage to enrich the standard of living for inhabitants. However, the realization of this objective hinges on the availability and integration of sustainable energy sources. This chapter delves into the intricate relationship between energy considerations and urban planning within the context of smart cities, explores the potential of renewable energy sources, and examines strategies for their effective implementation. Energy efficiency and the management of energy consumption in urban areas are crucial aspects to consider. Various components of cities can be transformed into smart entities, including smart grids and smart water grids. Additionally, investments in energy storage solutions are pivotal for the development of smart cities and their infrastructure. Combined heat and power (CHP) units represent a viable option for integration in urban settings, operating either through electricity and water or electricity and gas. However, there are concerns regarding certain aspects of their implementation and utilization within smart urban environments. Towards the conclusion of this discourse, an exploration of the advantages associated with the utilization of sustainable energy sources in smart cities is presented.
