Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) are presumed to create the cognitive tendency to engage in mindful awareness, which we conceptualize as a habit of mindful awareness. In turn, this habit of mindful awareness informs a wide array of habit-related processes that enhance mental and behavioral health outcomes. In this chapter, we outline a habit framework approach to mindful awareness. We examine key neural correlates through which the habits of mind trained in common MBIs may impact health-related habit formation processes in the context of valued goal pursuit. We further consider their impact on affective and stress regulation, social relationships, psychological well-being, and health outcomes.

摘要
