Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a severe psychological condition characterized by dysregulation of emotion, cognition, and behavior. The current gold standard treatment for borderline personality disorder is dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), which incorporates mindfulness as a core component of treatment. This chapter will provide a background on borderline personality disorder and an overview of DBT for borderline personality disorder, with an emphasis on mindfulness skills utilized as part of the treatment. Other mindfulness-based therapies adapted for treating borderline personality disorder (e.g., mindfulness-based cognitive therapy) will also be reviewed. The chapter concludes with a summary and discussion of future research directions related to this topic.
