Videoconference-Mediated Interventions for Anxiety and Related Disorders: Implications for Treatment Engagement
摘要
Videoconference-mediated interventions hold great promise in the treatment of anxiety disorders. Anxiety disorders and subthreshold anxiety are highly prevalent and exceed the ability of the mental health system to provide in-person therapy to all impacted. Videoconference may be particularly appealing to individuals with anxiety. For instance, videoconference can enhance privacy and access to specialized providers. For those for whom stigma, fears of social evaluation, or fears of traveling far from home may be a specific barrier, technology may facilitate treatment engagement where avoidance symptoms may otherwise have impeded access. This chapter will discuss the challenges, review the evidence, and offer suggestions on how to facilitate patient engagement in videoconference-mediated interventions for anxiety and related disorders.
