Balancing Heritage and Modernity: Evaluating the Role of Kelantan’s Traditional Crafts in Shaping Sustainable Tourism and Economic Development

This study examines the Creative Economic Culture of Kelantan, which relies on traditional handicrafts as well as modern artwork as the main components in the development of the economy. Concerning the aim of preserving the practiced ways and enhancing the sale ability, Kelantan however funds the local craftsmen by hosting artisan markets, undertaking craft staff training, and organizing skill acquisition lessons. The region also nurtures new talent including young designers and artists, as well as creative businesses through hubs and incubators, hence, promoting more innovation. There are other common practices reflective of this tradition, such as cultural tourism, including festivals and historical trails, which serve the dual purpose of heavy revenues to the economy while keeping the customs alive. Among the thirty such local cultural entrepreneurs operating in culture-based economies participated in unstructured interviews during the period from June to September in the year 2024. Based on content analysis methods, creative industries in Kelantan are deeply embedded in the local cultures and are fortified by existing systems. The research illustrates the usage of cultural resources in economic and social development and calls attention to the importance of local resources such as the people and infrastructure towards a healthy cultural economy.
