Adaptive Leadership in Support of Anti-oppressive Practice in Social Work Organizations
摘要
Social work endeavors to engage in anti-oppressive practice in alignment with its core values, particularly social justice and honoring the dignity and worth of each person. This chapter focuses on how social work organizations can strengthen anti-oppressive practice on an organizational level. What practices can help social work organizations “walk their talk”? How can organizational leadership frameworks contribute to the building of anti-oppressive organizations? This chapter encourages an exploration of these questions and suggests that leadership frameworks matter and can help organizations strengthen anti-oppressive practice through a strong alignment with the values of anti-oppressive social work. Anti-oppressive practice (AOP) calls on us to be self-reflective, and in that spirit, organizations can examine their leadership frameworks for their explicit practices and implicit beliefs. Concepts within the adaptive leadership framework are discussed for their alignment with and potential for helping to advance anti-oppressive practice in social work organizations.
