The 2022 Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS) of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) names disability and ability awareness as key intersectional components of an educational program focused on anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion. However, disability was found to be an educational focus in only 7% of the top 25 social work schools. The demands of generalist training and imposed accreditation standards challenge schools to address disability as essential pedagogy and often relegate their learning to specialization or elective courses. This chapter traces the historical perspective of disability studies in social work and how disability justice aligns with the mission and focus of social work. The chapter offers concrete strategies and a lesson plan to adapt disability justice to social work education. The chapter concludes with future recommendations for disability justice implementation, as well as the need for the voices of people with disabilities in social work education.
