This chapter extends the analysis of the anatomy of prison victimisation by analysing the relationship between the illicit economy and prison violence and victimisation. In so doing, it not only considers the appeal of the illicit economy, but also how the drug economy and debt economy had expanded and transformed. This chapter illustrates that it was not drug use itself that was necessarily causing aggression, but the enforcement activities linked to illicit economy.
