Studying Math and Science Through English in Moroccan Public Secondary Schools
摘要
This case study contributes to the ongoing studies about the use of English as a medium of instruction [EMI]. It examines the experiences of secondary school students with studying math and science through English in Moroccan public secondary schools in the region of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra. In order to meet this objective, questionnaires were distributed to 180 EMI students being enrolled in the schools concerned in the 2021–2022 academic year. The results revealed that a large number of them, 68.89%, confirmed possessing a good English language proficiency and were driven by instrumental motives for EMI, including their desire to study abroad, have more job opportunities locally and internationally and improve their English language skills. Furthermore, the vast majority of them, 78.89%, were satisfied with their EMI learning experiences which they considered unchallenging. Thus, 95% of them planned to continue their studies in the EMI track in the following academic year.
