Cultural Heritage as an Important Tool to Build a Place Branding: Any Strategies ? Systematic Literature Review

Recognizing the significant role of place branding in sustainable development by attracting investment stimulating economic growth and raising the quality of life and social prosperity. This paper aim to explore the importance of cultural heritage as an important tool to build a place branding on the one hand, and on the other, to identify the diverse strategies to build and develop place branding in the context of cultural heritage. In this approach, we sought to answer to the following problematic: What strategies could we use to build a place branding through cultural heritage ? To do so, this study has undertaken a systematic literature review (SLR), by using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. As a consequence, the search find out that cultural heritage serve as a reminder to reaffirm the national meanings and the attached values, especially in a context where place branding becomes vital for a more cohesive, equitable, and sustainable future. Also, this study revealed and identified 13 strategies and methods on how city branding through culture can be approached. These are as follow: using flagship building, personality, and hallmark events, culture on water, culture hubs, artistic transportation, historical moments and movements, culture gamification, grassroots culture, creative field, cultures of minorities, cultural fusions and embracing local folklore and mythical creatures. This study contribute in gathering different methods and strategies that can help both marketers and city or place planners to build and develop place branding using cultural heritage which is a vital resource for sustainable development and innovation.
