Effect of Bacillus Amyloliquefaciens in Controlling Rhizopus Stolonifer on Peaches Fruits

Peaches (Prunus persica) are highly susceptible to rot caused by opportunistic fungi during storage, such as Rhizopus stolonifer. This infection can lead to significant economic and health consequences. To address these issues, the study evaluated the effectiveness of various biological treatments for preserving peaches. The fruits were inoculated with a spore solution of R. stolonifer, either before or after treatment with Bacillus amyloliquefaciens or Fludioxonil, and stored at a temperature of 25 ℃ and humidity of 90%. They were monitored daily for 8 days. The results indicated that B. amyloliquefaciens effectively reduced R. stolonifer-induced soft rot in peaches, achieving a rot incidence of 68% under curative treatment and 45% under preventive treatment. Fruits treated with B. amyloliquefaciens before pathogen inoculation showed the best results for protection against R. stolonifer. Furthermore, this study paves the way for more sustainable conservation practices for these fruits, while mitigating the economic and environmental impacts associated with post-harvest fruit deterioration.
