Evaluating Geometric Precision in Selective Laser Melting: A Comprehensive Study Using Stainless Steel 316L

Selective laser melting (SLM) is an additive manufacturing technique that has gained significant attention because of its ability to produce near-net-shaped parts with complex geometries. However, achieving high geometric accuracy and dimensional precision for SLM-printed parts remains a critical challenge. The primary goal of this research is to design and manufacture a modular prototype that incorporates various features of different shapes and sizes across all three dimensions and is used to evaluate the ultimate capabilities of SLM systems in manufacturing parts with the highest dimensional accuracy from 316 L stainless steel.
