Capsules, Extracellular Matrix, Pili, and Fimbriae
摘要
Heteropolysaccharide capsules of the Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria are characterized. Sugars present in homopolymeric capsules and peptide capsules are discussed. The composition and synthesis of extracellular matrix associated with bacterial biofilms are summarized. The structure, function, and synthesis of various pili in bacteria and archaea are examined. The status of conductive extensions from cells called nanowires is discussed.
