Dialogical practice and therapy are a new approach in which clients lead both the content and the way of conversation, in which professionals contribute with their responses. The key is to listen to and accept unconditionally the voices of those who need help and to respond to expressions in the present moment. In Open Dialogue therapy meetings, everyone—including the clients, family, and the one in the center of concern—is involved from the beginning of the meeting, and all actions are planned and discussed in the presence of everyone. Open Dialogue has produced unprecedented results in the treatment of severe mental health crises and seems to have created a new paradigm based on a dialogical understanding of life. It has also decisively reduced the need for medication, thus protecting people from the side effects of neuroleptic medication used to treat psychosis. Mikhail Bakhtin has said that life is about engaging in dialogue so that the dialogue itself becomes a value in and of itself and is not a means to receive something. Dialogue is an aim in itself.
