This Chapter introduces the domain of the work where the grinding procedure of the ball mill and the role of acoustic signatures in predicting the state of grinding are discussed. After that, discussions are continued towards the problem statement, the present status of the grinding mechanism, and the tools and techniques employed to develop the system. Next the new approach has been presented towards solving the problem along with the implementation issues. The background studies involving methods such as Data preprocessing, Data Organization, Partitioning of Data, Neural Networks for function approximation and Genetic Algorithm for predicting optimum particle size distribution are included in this Chapter for better understanding of the materials and methods, applied for finding solution of the problem.
