The chapter is dedicated to the well-known information provided by the Emperor Constantine VII Porphyrogenitus on the role of his grandfather Basil I in the Christianization of the Serbs and Croats. After examining the emperor’s data on that issue and the question of Byzantine authority over Dalmatian cities, Serbs and Croats in the ninth century and the data on the presence of Christianity among Serbs and Croats before the time of Basil I, it is assumed that Porphyrogenitus’ information that Basil I baptized Serbs and Croats has no historical value, but that it was based on the information from Tactics of his father Leo VI about the role of Basil I in the Christianization of the Slavs in Greece.

摘要
