Nursing care for bladder exstrophy and epispadias patients is a critical part of the holistic care that is provided. Nursing is involved in every stage of care, from the time of birth through the preoperative planning, immediate post-operative care, and then longer-term clinical follow-up. In the outpatient setting, nursing care can provide a useful adjunct to the physicians’ care, as often patients are more open to asking questions, and the nursing team may have more time to spend to review every concern. In the post-operative period, of course, nursing in the ICU and general floor provides essential care that promotes patient safety and well-being and sets the conditions for optimal wound healing and recovery. This chapter highlights the collaboration between nursing and surgeon teams to provide an overall enhanced experience for the patient.
