Eco-Friendly Dyeing of Cotton Fabrics with Natural Pigments

The rich color palette is achieved from the natural resources which may be used extensively for coloring textile materials through printing, dyeing, and various other techniques. In general, human emotions and qualities are connected to colors that are also obtained from natural resources like plants, minerals, and animals. Various studies are done by researchers to investigate the new coloring resources that enhance the properties of fabrics rather than coloration. This study investigates the key aspects such as the dyeing of cotton fabrics from natural resources such as Eclipta (leaves), marking nut (Seed), and Tamarind bark to achieve durable and vibrant colors aiming for environmentally friendly products. The cotton fabrics were pre-treated to remove the dirt and to enhance the uniform dye uptake. Mordants like alum and pomegranate rind were used in this study to improve the color fastness properties and dyeability. The parameters such as the type of dye, the concentration of dyes (% Wt.), and the type of mordants were optimized in the dye bath at a constant temperature and time to analyze the good color fastness. This research provides a holistic understanding of the performance of sustainable natural dyes in textile applications with specific properties to color fastness. The findings are intended to support sustainable practices in the textile sector by aiding the development of environmentally friendly dyeing methods.
