The Grappa Massif served as a critical battlefield during World War I from November 1917 to November 1918, witnessing two defensive battles and one offensive. The extensive military operations, including large-scale offensives and smaller tactical actions, significantly altered the landscape, leading to the construction of an intricate military infrastructure. Despite post-war clearance efforts, the likelihood of encountering unexploded ordnance (UXO) remains high, especially in remote and rugged areas, posing a substantial risk during excavation activities. This study presents the development of a UXO probability map for the Grappa Massif, created within a GIS framework. A series of historical documents, including military maps from World War I preserved at the State Archives of Florence, were collected, georeferenced, and analyzed. Military elements identified in these maps were classified and weighted based on their probability of containing UXO, utilizing the Circular Error Probable (CEP) method. This approach has allowed for the identification of distinct risk zones, providing a crucial tool for preventing accidents during land development and excavation activities.
