Hydrophobic Paper
摘要
Paper has a hydrophilic nature due to the existence of many hydroxyl groups and the porosity of cellulosic structure. Despite its benefits, this feature limits the development of paper in some fields. Its hydrophilic property diffuses moisture into its tissue and reduces its stability. There are various methods for decreasing the hydrophilic properties of paper. Because most of the coating methods are expensive and may reduce the biodegradability of the paper, investigations to invent simple, efficient, low-cost, green, and safe coating methods using biodegradable and biocompatible coating materials to create hydrophobic properties on the paper surface are ongoing. This chapter presents a summary of the properties of hydrophobic paper and hydrophobic coating methods and applications.
