Networked applications, the web, and diverse applications on mobile platforms have attracted hundreds of millions of end-users [1, 2] who interact and transact with services dispersed across the internet. Users use these services without being concerned about where the data and computation providing such services are located. Furthermore, the scale and reliability of such computational and data infrastructures have become limitless since users from across the world expect instantaneous responses to their requests twenty-four-seven. During the past two decades, unprecedented advances have facilitated the development of highly scalable and reliable infrastructures to host networked applications.
