Introduction: Health Promotion in the Context of Long-Term Care
摘要
This book emphasizes the quality of life of older adults, focusing on their relocation to long-term care facilities, addressing the current state of long-term care and the challenges in providing long-term care residents with the highest quality of care from a unique and distinct vantage point. The concept of health promotion varies by the differences in the definition of health. From a broad perspective, health promotion supports individuals and communities in preventing, coping with, and addressing health challenges, and enables people to enhance control over their own health. This book emphasizes basic strategies for health promotion, as described by the World Health Organization, i.e., advocate (boost the factors that encourage health), enable (support people in achieving health equity), and mediate (collaborate across sectors). This introductory chapter discusses the factors that have the most powerful impact on long-term care residents’, particularly the most vulnerable ones’, quality of life and the potential of health promotional practices. The chapters that follow attempt to tie various disparate themes together, focusing on the current quality of services, emphasizing the possible role of cross-cultural health promotional practices in maintaining the quality of life and promoting a person-centered holistic biopsychosocial approach to aging that maximizes their quality of life while living with different chronic conditions.
