Harnessing LLM of ChatGPT in Teaching Discourse Analysis for English Linguistic Major Students
摘要
AI in Education (AIED) is currently a trend that many educators are interested in researching. The new roles of AI in the application of education are being explored through various perspectives and approaches in learning design and learning experience, such as AI-directed, AI-supported, AI-transferred, and AI-empowered. Today, AI applications such as ChatGPT in language teaching, especially English, have developed diversely and richly. However, in teaching English linguistics, the potential for AI application will enable learners to achieve new tangible and intangible skills by simulating the structure of Large Language Models (LLM) integrated into the teaching process. This study presents the transformative application potential of LLMs in Discourse Analysis (DA) courses for English major students. It examines how these advanced LLM of ChatGPT can be utilized to enhance the learning experience and outcomes in this specific area of linguistics. The research results also show differences in students’ learning outcomes using ChatGPT in the DA course with creative, rich, and diverse learning activities, focusing on personalization. Besides, the proposed transformation model of LLM ChatGPT will provide suggestions and recommendations for AI developers to create “Narrow AI-Subjects” that support teaching specific subjects in Higher education.
