India is gifted with many perennial rivers and government of India is thus trying to utilize this precious gift in order to generate revenue through tourism department by building various river front structures. This paper is related to such a river front structure project adjacent to river Brahmaputra. In this project there are various components like pile supported boulevard, river bed protection works, pile supported retaining wall, and some building structures. Since this project lies in the northeast part of the country (Seismic Zone V) and also as river Brahmaputra is having a very high flow velocity, hence liquefaction of soil and scouring is a major concern. To mitigate the scouring action river bed protection with gabion mattress is used over a stable slope and also a filter geotextile beneath the gabion mattress is proposed. The extent of bed protection along with others details like gabion thickness, rock size, material specification of gabion mattress wire, etc., along with their design approach are discussed in details in this paper. This paper also deals with the calculation approach to derive the most probable liquefiable depth using a suitable peak ground acceleration. All bored cast in situ piles are thus designed taking this depth into account. As this project is located in Zone V (High seismic zone), hence in order to design the retaining wall structure along with static earth pressure, dynamic earth pressure is also taken into account. The structural design of pile supported boulevard structure and retaining wall is done taking help of STAAD software. The calculation details and results are elucidated in this paper. The slope stability analysis is done using SLIDE software. The Factor of safety both in static and seismic case are shown in this paper.
