Analysis and Design of Pile Foundations on the River of Jamuna and Padma for Transmission Line
摘要
Deep foundation is basically required to carry all type of loads from a structure where very high scour is anticipated or where the competent strata is present at deeper depth. Geotechnical investigation work is carried out for Jamuna and Padma River crossing portion of Rooppur Dhaka, Bangladesh 400 kVA and 230 kVA Double Circuit Transmission Line. Ground Investigation is also a predominant feature in designing foundation of important structure in an intelligent, economic and satisfactory way. The total 26 boreholes were carried out up to 120.0 m depth from the existing ground level on river bank and river bed location. The top soil is silty sand, further soil strata varies from poorly graded sand to well graded sand at deeper layers. High scour depths due to heavy currents of Jamuna and Padma River is primary reason to go for such deeper foundations. Consistency of the top soil usually varies from loose, medium dense to dense sand. Axial and lateral pile performance, i.e., t-z, q-z and p-y, specifically the pile head movement during applied loading was estimated using a subgrade reaction model. Ground response analysis are generally analyzed by 1D response assuming that seismic waves travel in vertical directions through soil layers. This analysis is carried out in DEEPSOIL computer software. Designs of concrete piles are given in river bank as per AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and designs of steel piles are given in the river bed as per API standards. Laboratory design parameters, SPT N values, liquefaction, scour and plugging effect plays a vital role in design of pile foundations. Diameters of piles are considered 2.0 and 2.5 m for concrete piles and 2.85 m for steel piles with 0.063 m wall thickness. It is concluded that, depth of pile foundations are required up to 90 to 105 m below bed level to safely transfer the superstructure loads into the soil below.
