The construction of pile foundations adjacent to existing buildings introduces number of complex interactions and potential effects on the structural integrity and performance of both the new and existing structures. This literature review aims to illustrate the diverse range of impacts, methodologies, and findings presented in ongoing research relevant to this case. The review commences by examining the structural implications of constructing pile foundations in close proximity to existing buildings. Based on practical applications taken from field studies and numerical simulations, it analyzes the redistribution of loads and stresses within the soil-structure system, governing the response of the foundation system to construction activities and understanding of settlement mechanisms, differential movements and damage modes due to such construction. Furthermore, the review considers the influence of geotechnical aspects like; the influence of soil characteristics, pile design parameters, and construction techniques. It addresses geoenvironmental aspects through evaluating the ecological footprint and groundwater impacts. Combination of eco-friendly building methods and ways to reduce harm to the environment. It highlights the need for comprehensive risk assessment and mitigation strategies to ensure the safety and stability of both the new and existing structures.
