Highlighting Real-Time Information Impact on Passenger Perception of Bus Service Quality and Satisfaction

Examining service quality attributes in bus transport is of paramount importance to understanding and optimising the passenger experience. In the age of advanced digital technologies, such as Intelligent Transportation Systems, providing passengers with reliable and real-time information has become a key factor influencing passenger perceptions. Through a scoping review, this paper aims to explore and synthesise current knowledge on the impact of real-time information on passenger perceptions of service quality and satisfaction in bus transport. The PRISMA-ScR methodology was adopted to conduct the study, which included 28 relevant studies selected from Scopus and MDPI databases. The results show that studies on the topic increased in 2021 and emerged from different study contexts, particularly the United States and China, examining several forms of RTI application in bus service and mentioning that integrating Artificial Intelligence has played a crucial role in improving Information attribute. Consequently enhancing other service quality attributes, such as reliability, accessibility, comfort, and safety. This progress has directly contributed to the overall improvement in service quality and increased passenger satisfaction and confidence in the service.
