This article analyzed the main trends in the use of intelligent systems for tourism development, focusing on the period 2019–2024 using a mixed approach that combined a bibliometric and qualitative analysis. The research revealed that artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and immersive technologies, such as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), have significantly transformed the tourism sector. Intelligent systems enabled greater personalization of tourism services, improved destination management, and optimized the traveler experience. It also highlighted the positive impact of these technologies on sustainability by enabling better resource management and a reduction in over-tourism in some key destinations. However, the study also identified significant challenges to the adoption of these technologies, including the need for technological infrastructure, staff training, and the ethical management of large volumes of data. These challenges underscore the importance of appropriate policies to ensure that the implementation of smart systems in tourism is carried out in an ethical, efficient, and sustainable manner.
