A comprehensive analysis of the literature on artificial intelligence and writing in the social sciences was conducted in the Scopus database during the period 2019–2023. A mixed approach, including a bibliometric analysis and a qualitative analysis of the most relevant articles, was combined. The results evidenced a significant increase in scholarly publications on the topic, indicating a growing acceptance of artificial intelligence as a transformative tool in writing and communication. Five main research trends were identified: the use of artificial intelligence to assist in the writing process, the ethical implications of automated content generation, the application of AI in education to improve writing skills, the impact of AI on journalism and media, and the exploration of creativity in AI-assisted writing. These trends highlighted both the opportunities and challenges that artificial intelligence presented in social, educational, and business settings. It was concluded that while artificial intelligence offered significant benefits in optimizing and personalizing writing, it also raised ethical and practical concerns that need to be addressed. It was recommended that future research delve deeper into these issues and that ethical and normative frameworks be established to guide the responsible implementation of AI in writing.
