Neutrosophic sets, designed as an extension of crisp sets, fuzzy sets, and intuitionistic fuzzy sets, offer a versatile tool for representing uncertainty, inconsistency, and incompleteness in real-world problems. This paper pioneers the mathematical representation of a transportation problem using neutrosophic octagonal fuzzy numbers. Transportation, a pivotal function in any business, incurs costs influenced by various constraints such as driver behavior, weather, distance, and market demand. A real-world example demonstrating the effectiveness of the neutrosophic approach supports the discussion of the proposed model’s urgent need.
