Vegetables are perhaps the most universal and diverse group of crops we will encounter on our journey. Even though one subgroup, the legumes, are virtually independent of added nitrogen, most vegetables are highly demanding of high levels of soil fertility. The diversity of vegetable species and the high fertilizer inputs typical of vegetable culture have attracted an equally wide range of plant pathogens.
